How to layer necklaces without the tangle
Lengths, weights and three easy combinations, from everyday chains to a festive choker with a long necklace.
Start with different lengths
Layers look deliberate when each piece sits on its own line. Leave a few centimetres between them: a short chain near the collarbone, a middle one a little lower, and a long one lower still.
Mix weights, not styles
Pair one heavier piece with finer chains, and keep the metal tone the same: antique gold-tone with antique gold-tone, bright gold-tone with bright gold-tone.
Three combinations to try
Everyday: two fine anti-tarnish chains of different lengths, one with a small charm.
Evening: a slim chain with a pendant necklace below it.
Festive: a choker at the base of the neck with a long necklace or haaram falling below it. This is the classic bridal pairing.
Stopping the tangle
Fasten the longest piece first and the shortest last. Heavier pendants at the bottom keep the chains apart, and a quick straighten in the mirror before you leave does the rest.
